Nosy News ("we," "us," "our") operates the Nosy News platform, mobile application, and website (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to it. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

  • Account information: name, email address, profile photo, and authentication credentials when you register.
  • User Content: stories, photos, videos, comments, and other content you post.
  • Communications: messages you send us directly (e.g., support requests).

2b. Information Collected Automatically

  • Location data: precise GPS coordinates when you post a story or verify a location-based claim (with your permission).
  • Device data: device type, operating system, IP address, browser type, and app version.
  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, timestamps, and interaction patterns.
  • Push notification tokens: to deliver breaking news alerts to your device.

2c. Third-Party Sign-In

If you sign in using Google, Apple, or X (Twitter), we receive limited profile data (name, email, profile photo) from those services as permitted by their respective privacy policies.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and maintain your account;
  • To provide, improve, and personalize the Service;
  • To display your User Content to other users;
  • To verify location-based contributions;
  • To send push notifications and service-related communications;
  • To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms;
  • To comply with legal obligations;
  • To analyze usage trends and improve platform performance.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their independent marketing purposes.

4. Third-Party Services

The Service is built on and integrates with the following third-party providers:

  • Firebase (Google): authentication, database storage (Firestore), file storage, and push notifications. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, X (Twitter) Sign-In:optional third-party authentication. Subject to the respective provider's privacy policy.

We may share data with these providers only as necessary to deliver the Service.

5. Public Content

Stories, contributions, and other User Content you post are visible to other users of the Service. Your display name and general location (e.g., neighborhood or city) may be shown alongside your contributions. Do not post information you wish to keep private.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and User Content for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Stories are designed to be permanently preservedas part of the platform's mission of creating lasting community records. If you delete your account, your personally identifiable information will be removed; however, your User Content may remain on the platform in anonymized or attributed form consistent with the platform's archival purpose.

7. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly. 8. Your Rights

  • Access the personal information we hold about you;

EEA / UK residents (GDPR)

We use industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit (TLS) and Firebase's security infrastructure, to protect your information. No system is completely secure; we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data.
